Terms of Use
These terms apply to the Siciliapp iOS app ("the app"). They are short on purpose. If anything is unclear, email me at markrsh.apps@gmail.com.
1. Who I am
The app is made and published by:
Mark Robert Sindoni Houghton
Sole trader (ditta individuale), Italy
Partita IVA (VAT no.): 02779990221
Email: markrsh.apps@gmail.com
"I", "me" and "my" mean the person above. "You" means the person using the app.
2. How these terms fit with Apple's
You get the app from the Apple App Store. Your licence to use the app is granted under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Apple Standard EULA"), with me as the licensor. The Apple Standard EULA governs the licence.
These terms do not replace the Apple Standard EULA. They only add points specific to Siciliapp. If something in these terms conflicts with the Apple Standard EULA, the Apple Standard EULA wins as far as the licence is concerned.
Your purchases through the App Store are also governed by Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions.
How I handle personal data is explained separately in the Privacy Policy.
3. What is free and what is paid
- The app is free to download and includes a set of free decks.
- A one-time in-app purchase, Lifetime Unlock, unlocks the premium decks included in the app at the time you buy. The App Store listing and the app show which decks are premium.
- There is no subscription, no recurring charge and no advertising.
The price is shown in the app before you buy. Apple sets the price in your local currency and includes any applicable VAT or sales tax.
4. The purchase
- Apple sells it. The Lifetime Unlock is a non-consumable in-app purchase. Apple processes the payment and acts as merchant of record. I never see your payment details.
- Refunds are handled by Apple. I cannot issue refunds myself. To ask for one, go to reportaproblem.apple.com or follow Apple's refund instructions.
- Restoring. If you reinstall the app or move to a new device signed in with the same Apple Account, tap Settings → Restore purchases to unlock the premium decks again at no cost.
- Family Sharing. If Family Sharing is available for your purchase, members of your Family Sharing group may also be able to unlock the premium decks, subject to Apple's rules. Whether this is available is shown on the App Store listing.
5. What "Lifetime" means
"Lifetime" means:
- a single payment, never a subscription; and
- the premium decks stay unlocked for the Apple Account that bought them (and, if available, its Family Sharing group) for as long as the app is available on Apple's platform and runs on your device.
It does not mean your lifetime or mine, and it is not a promise of future content. The Lifetime Unlock covers the premium decks that exist when you buy. I may add new content in future updates, and I may choose whether new content is free, included in the Lifetime Unlock, or sold separately; I will make that clear in the app before you pay for anything new.
If I ever withdraw the app from the App Store, a copy already installed on your device will keep working with the content you have unlocked for as long as your device and iOS version can run it, although I cannot guarantee restoring on a new device after withdrawal. This does not affect any statutory rights you have (section 7).
6. Your right of withdrawal in the EU and UK
If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, the law normally gives you 14 days to withdraw from an online purchase without giving a reason. For digital content that is supplied immediately, that right ends once the supply starts, if you asked for immediate supply and acknowledged that you would lose the right of withdrawal.
Because Apple sells the in-app purchase, Apple handles the right of withdrawal. Apple's terms for EU customers let you cancel an order within 14 days of receiving your receipt by going to your Apple Account purchase history or reportaproblem.apple.com, except where supply has started at your request. In practice, Apple often grants refunds within that period. Any decision is Apple's.
This section describes your rights; it does not limit them.
7. Your legal rights are not affected
Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have by law as a consumer that cannot be excluded by contract. This includes, for example:
- in the EU, your rights under the Italian Consumer Code (Codice del Consumo) and the consumer law of the country where you live, including the legal guarantee that digital content conforms to the contract;
- in the UK, your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015;
- in Australia, the consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law.
If the app or the premium decks do not work as described, contact me first — I will try to fix it quickly — and you may also contact Apple.
8. About the content
Siciliapp teaches Sicilian as spoken around Messina. I have worked hard to make the cards accurate, but please keep in mind:
- Sicilian varies a lot from town to town and across generations. A word or spelling on a card may be different where your family comes from — that does not necessarily make either one wrong.
- Sicilian has no single official spelling. The app uses a consistent, readable spelling that may differ from other sources.
- The cards are educational material, not a certified or professional translation. Please do not rely on them for legal, medical, official or other important communication.
If you spot a mistake, please tell me. I read every message.
9. Acceptable use
Please use the app for your own personal learning. You must not:
- copy, extract, republish or sell the cards, decks or their content, in whole or in substantial part, for example to build another app, product or dataset (including for training AI models);
- try to unlock paid content without paying, or bypass or interfere with the in-app purchase system;
- reverse-engineer or modify the app, except as far as the law allows you to despite this restriction;
- use the app in a way that breaks the law or the App Store rules.
Quoting a few cards for personal study notes, teaching a class, or discussion (with credit to Siciliapp) is fine.
10. Intellectual property
The flashcards, example sentences, deck structure, notes, design and the Siciliapp name and logo are original works © 2026 Mark Robert Sindoni Houghton, all rights reserved, except for third-party components (such as fonts and open-source software) that are used under their own licences. Individual Sicilian words are part of a living language and belong to everyone; what is protected is my selection, arrangement, translations, examples and notes.
Your licence to use the app is described in the Apple Standard EULA (section 2). No other rights are granted.
11. Changes to the app
I may update the app to fix mistakes, improve content or keep it working with new versions of iOS. I will not remove premium decks you have paid for through an update, except where a card or deck must be changed or removed to correct errors, for legal reasons, or where the content is replaced by a corrected or improved version of equal or greater scope.
12. Liability
I am responsible to you for foreseeable loss and damage caused by my breach of these terms or my failure to use reasonable care and skill, subject to this section.
- What I never exclude: nothing in these terms excludes or limits my liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for wilful misconduct (dolo) or gross negligence (colpa grave), or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law — including your statutory consumer rights (section 7).
- Business use: the app is for personal learning. If you use it for business, commercial or resale purposes, I am not liable to you for loss of profit, business, business opportunity or data.
- Unforeseeable loss: I am not responsible for loss or damage that was not foreseeable to you and me when you started using the app.
- Events outside my control: I am not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside my reasonable control, such as outages of Apple's or RevenueCat's services.
The app is small, offline and made by one person. Please keep your expectations — and your backups — sensible.
13. Governing law and courts
These terms are governed by Italian law.
If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you normally live; choosing Italian law does not take that away. You can bring a claim in the courts of the country where you live, and if I ever need to bring a claim against you as a consumer, I can only do so there. If you live in Italy, the court of the place where you live or have chosen as your domicile has jurisdiction.
14. Disputes
If something goes wrong, please email me first. Most problems can be solved with a message. I am not committed to, and not obliged to use, an alternative dispute resolution body. This does not affect your right to go to court (section 13).
15. Changes to these terms
I may update these terms, for example when the app gains new features or the law changes. I will publish the new version here with a new version number and effective date and, for significant changes, mention them in the app's release notes. Changes will not apply retroactively to purchases you have already made, and will not reduce what you have already paid for.
16. General
- If a court finds part of these terms invalid, the rest stays in effect.
- If I do not enforce a term straight away, I can still enforce it later.
- These terms are available in English. If a translated version is published, you may rely on whichever version is more favourable to you where they differ.
